The American Airlines pilots union, the Allied Pilots Association, prepares to enact April on whether to permit members to call a strike as talks for a brand-new labor agreement continue.

The vote notification comes 2 days after American Airlines CEO Robert Isom stated the provider is prepared to raise pilot pay to match payment at competitor Delta Air Lines, whose pilots authorized their brand-new agreement March 1.

“While our Negotiating Committee reports good progress, we remain steadfast and focused that now is the time to reach an agreement with American Airlines,” the APA statedThursday “APA must also ensure it utilizes all its legal processes for contract resolution and improvement.”

Delta’s pilots are getting 34% raises in the brand-new four-year offer, together with other enhancements. They had actually authorized a strike permission vote in the fall, about a month prior to reaching an initial handle the business.

Even if the APA called a strike it would not be instant. Airline strikes are incredibly unusual in the U.S. and would follow a prolonged procedure including federal arbitrators.

“We look forward to reaching an agreement with APA quickly so that American’s pilots can benefit from meaningful enhancements to their pay and quality of life,” the airline company stated in a declaration.
