And the real breakout star of the Opening Ceremony? Well, it was a treadmill.
Japanese fighter Arisa Tsubata, who is likewise a nurse who was on the frontlines dealing with COVID-19 clients, truly took the spotlight throughout the sneak preview with her excellent running abilities, along with other socially distanced professional athletes who were working out on a rowing device and a stationary bicycle, respectively.
Tsubata unfortunately did not receive the Games after the IOC cancelled the boxing qualifier in June due to the pandemic, so we’re happy to to see the 27-year-old professional athlete still get her time to shine at the Olympics, even if she was required to run alone in front of countless individuals.
