Amazon stated Tuesday that it would contribute $8 million to combat homelessness. Plymouth Housing in Washington will get $5 million, and the Arlington Community Foundation will get $3 million. Both nonprofits lie in Amazon headquarter cities.

In addition to the contribution, Amazon will match staff member contributions to the following charities as much as $5 million through Sept. 30:

  • Carpenter’s Shelter.

  • Mary’s Place.
  • Plymouth Housing.
  • Wellspring Family Services.
  • Wesley Housing Development Corporation.
  • YouthCare.

The funds will assist increase access to cost effective real estate for low-income households and veterans, according to Amazon. The nonprofits can utilize the cash to produce more real estate systems and include assistance services for neighborhood members in those areas.

In Amazon’s release, Paul Lambros, CEO of Plymouth Housing, stated Amazon’s effort would assist the not-for-profit fulfill the instant requirements of countless individuals in the coming years. And Jennifer Owens, president and CEO of the Arlington Community Foundation, stated, “Our veterans and working families deserve an appropriate standard of living that is healthy, safe and makes for a vibrant community. This gift is a great contribution toward that cause.”

Jay Carney, senior vice president of Global Corporate Affairs at Amazon, stated homelessness and cost effective real estate are genuine issues in headquarter cities.

“We believe this gift can help offer additional housing and support services for our neighbors in need. In addition, together with our employees, we will donate to nonprofits located in Washington state; Washington, DC; Maryland and Virginia, whose missions support affordable housing and people experiencing homelessness,” Carney stated.

Last month, MacKenzie Bezos signed the Giving Pledge, following her divorce from the Amazon CEO. The split would make MacKenzie Bezos among the wealthiest individuals worldwide, worth about $37 billion. She prepares to distribute a minimum of half of her fortune. To date, her soon-to-be-ex partner hasn’t signed the promise. 

Last September, Jeff Bezos revealed the charitable Bezos Day One Fund. The fund will at first concentrate on offering cash to existing nonprofits that assist homeless neighborhoods. Later, it’ll be tailored towards producing a brand-new network of top-tier preschools in low-income neighborhoods.
