American Airways on Tuesday mentioned it plans to not provide plastic straws and stir sticks in its lounges and onboard its flights, amid a broader world push to desert one-time use plastics.
Beginning this month, American mentioned drinks in its airport lounges will not include plastic utensils and can as a substitute function biodegradable straws and wood stir sticks. The phase-out onboard its planes will start in November, with plastic straws and stirrers to get replaced by environmentally pleasant bamboo.
“We’re cognizant of our affect on the surroundings and we stay dedicated to doing our half to maintain the planet for future generations of vacationers,” Jill Surdek, vp of flight service, mentioned in an announcement.
The service may also transition to “eco-friendly” flatware in its lounges.
American mentioned that the transfer will eradicate greater than 71,000 kilos (32,200 kg) of plastic every year.
The Fort Price, Texas-based service joins rival Alaska Airways, which introduced in Could its plans to switch plastic straws with extra environmentally pleasant options.
