Promoter Bob Arum previously said there ‘wasn’t the money for the fight’, but Khan thinks there is more to it than meets the eye
AMIR KHAN has claimed his fight against Manny Pacquiao was called off because the Filipino didn’t fancy it.
Earlier this year it looked like the two former stablemates were going to face each other in a mega money fight in the UAE.
Unfortunately that fight fell through with promoter Bob Arum saying the money “didn’t exist to put the fight together”.
Keep up to date with ALL the latest boxing news, gossip and rumours.
But Khan feels that Filipino great Pacquiao in fact avoided the fight with him because he was too much of a tough opponent.

Speaking to Boxing Scene, the Bolton-born boxer said: “I think Manny didn’t want to fight.
“He knew it was going to be a hard fight for him. We have known each other since 2008, we used to spar together all the time.
“But since then, I’ve changed my fight style. He knows it is going to be a very hard fight for him, that’s why he’s probably thought I’ll fight somebody easy.
“That’s why he’s fighting Australian Jeff Horn, who is an unknown fighter really. But I still think our fight will happen, because it makes good money. It’s a big financial fight.”
Talking of money, Khan has spoke of his reasons behind fighting, he says he only wants to fight for big bucks.
He added: “We are prizefighters. We fight for money. If I’m not going to get paid for it, there no interest in it for me.”
But SunSport has previously reported that Pacquiao DID want the Khan fight, but it didn’t happen because of Ramadan.
Pacquiao’s advisor Michael Koncz told Fox Sports in Australia: “We’re not able to fight Amir Khan because of Ramadan, so we decided to take this fight in the interim.
“We signed it [for Horn], so yeah, we’re excited about it. But again, my preference was to fight Khan.
“That didn’t work out. We had this on the table so we decided to take it.
“Manny will train and do the best he can and, hopefully, we get the fight over with very quickly, we get out of there, we say hi to the Australian fans and media and come home.”
