AJ’s promoter has requested the International Boxing Federation allow him to side-step mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev in favour of another dust-up with Dr Steelhammer
EDDIE HEARN is pushing forward with plans for a spectacular rematch between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko.
AJ’s promoter has requested the IBF allow him to side-step mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev in favour of another dust-up with the Ukrainian.
IBF President Daryl Peoples told World Boxing News: “Last Thursday [May 11th], the IBF received an exception request from Matchroom on behalf of Anthony Joshua.

“I’m expecting a reply from Sauerland on behalf of Pulev either today or early tomorrow.
“The Board will consider the exception request during the convention next week and determine what actions the IBF will take as soon as a decision has been made.”
The IBF are able to grant Joshua an ‘exception request’, which would let him keep his belt while not facing Bulgarian Pulev next.

But such a decision will surely upset Tyson Fury and his team.
The Gypsy King was stripped of the same belt within days after winning it back in 2015 for not facing then-mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov, an act that ultimately lead to Joshua winning the IBF title.
If Pulev removes himself and lets the rematch go ahead then he would be next in line for a shot at Joshua in 2018.
That would leave Fury with more disappointment as he was planning on facing Joshua next April.
Wales, America, Dubai and China are all places touted for the rematch, which will likely take place later this year.
