Ashton Kutcher has an essential message.
On Tuesday, the That ‘70s Show alum required to Instagram with a tearful plea intended towards his fans that commented “All Lives Matter” on a current post. Addressing fans in a video captioned, “#Blm vs #Alm understanding why saying ‘all lives matter’ is missing the point,” he discussed why the expression is being misused in the bigger discussion of race.
“So, on Saturday, I posted a black out of my social media channels and just posted ‘BLM’ and a lot of folks responded, ‘All Lives Matter,'” his video started. “And, I want to talk about that a little bit because I don’t think the people that are posting ‘All Lives Matter’ should be canceled. I think they should be educated.”
As he continued, Kutcher discussed that an exchange in between him, his other half Mila Kunis and their 2 kids Wyatt, 5, and Dimitri, 3, motivated him to speak up.
“We all agree all lives matter. But I had a really poignant experience tonight when I was putting my kids down to bed that lent the words for why black lives matter,” he shared. “So, usually Mila and I put our kids to bed and we read them a book and our daughter always gets to go first.”
“And tonight, as we were reading her book, my son says, ‘Wait, why don’t I get to go first?’ And Mila said, ‘Because girls go first,'” he continued. “And he said, ‘Yeah, but boys go first.’ And I looked at him and I said, ‘No, girls go first.’ And I said, ‘You know why girls go first? For you and me, girls go first. And the reason why is, for some boys, girls don’t get a go at all. And so for you and me, girls go first.'”
Concluding his message on an empowering note, The Ranch star worried why it is essential to him to stand in uniformity with the black neighborhood.
“So when it comes to Black Lives Matter, I think what folks that are writing ‘All Lives Matter’ need to understand is that for some people…black lives don’t matter at all,” he stated as he started to keep back tears. “So for us, black lives matter. So, while you may have the best intentions in saying, ‘All Lives Matter,’ remember: For some people, black lives don’t matter at all.”
Kutcher’s video got a profusion of assistance. Scooter Braun commented, “Well said,” followed by Evan Ross, who composed, “Thank u for this. Im with u like ur with all of us.”
Applauding his post, one fan commented, “Bless your soul ! So powerful and inspiring love you and M.” Another chimed in, composing, “THANK YOU FOR USING YOUR PLATFORM TO EDUCATE PEOPLE AND BEING VULNERABLE. YOU ARE HEARD. YOU ARE SEEN. YOU ARE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU!”
“E! stands in solidarity with the black community against systemic racism and oppression experienced every day in America,” the network stated in a declaration on May 31. “We owe it to our black staff, talent, production partners and viewers to demand change and accountability. To be silent is to be complicit. #BlackLivesMatter.”
