AUSTRALIA have been coaching with dash king Usain Bolt forward of this winter’s Ashes.. as they discover ways to sprint between the wickets.

The cricket-mad Jamaican, 31, has been lending a hand to the Aussies as they put together for this winter’s eagerly-anticipated collection.

Bolt – who retired from athletics this summer season – says he has at all times observed how batsmen seem to lack “explosiveness” after they run between the wickets.

This winter – or summer as it is Down Under – Australian cricket will present a Gatorade Fastest Run trophy to the star to notch the fastest speed between the wickets.

They will use a scale they’re calling a “Bolt Rate”, which Bolt himself is thrilled about.

The Jamaican revealed: “We’re trying to make awareness more of running [in cricket] and we’re developing the Bolt Rate which is the quickest person through the wicket.

“I’m happy about that, because we’re going to see who is the fastest between the wickets. Nobody can assume – now we’ll actually know who’s the fastest.”

Bolt will now turn his attention to getting fit himself, as he prepares for a career outside of sprinting… possibly in football.

The Jamaican claimed: “It’s something that I want to do. I’m trying to get fit now.

“My doctor finally passed me after my hamstring problems at the world championships, so now I can start training.

“I’ve started training while I’m here and trying to get into shape before I get home and next year I’ll get a trial and we’ll take it from there.”

Bolt is set to have a trial with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. On the potential stint with the German club, Bolt added: “We’ll decide if it makes sense.

“When I put my mind to something, I’m going to do it. I’m going to train hard, put myself through some drills.

“Coach of the team in Jamaica – I’ll do some work with him also to figure out the finer details.”
