BELGIAN cyclist Victor Campenaerts cheekily asked a woman out on date by a writing question on his chest before competing in the Giro d’Italia.

Thankfully for Victor, she agreed after the stunt – but he was fined £78 by organisers for “damaging the image of the sport”.

Campenaerts undid his jacket to reveal the cheeky message

Just before embarking on an individual time trial at stage 10 of the prestigious Italian race, he undid the zip on his jersey where written across his chest it was written “Carlien daten?”

Translated unsurprisingly as “Carlien, will you go on a date?”, he grinned before covering his bare chest and cycling off.

Campenaerts came in a lowly 11 minutes behind the leaders in Tuesday’s Stage 10 time trial, but looked to have other things on his mind as he revealed the message again during the race.

Carlien eventually identified herself and even went on TV to reveal she had said yes to 25-year-old Campenaerts – but as long as they don’t go to a see a film, as she falls asleep in cinemas.

He then went off on his time trial at the Giro d'Italia

And her favourite idea of a date would involve food and a bike ride – something which Campenaerts probably wants to take a break from given it is his day job.

Although she said she wasn’t even watching it when he revealed his message: “I did not see the pictures live.

“I came from a meeting at work and suddenly had a lot of missed calls and messages. A journalist called me and told me the story. I could not say no to that.”

But annoyingly for the rider, he was fined a measly total for the stunt – although a radio host in his Belgian homeland has set up a funding page to pay it, which currently sits at £22.

According to Sporza, Campenaerts and Carlien have known each other for a while, with Campenaerts helping the former triathlete with her swimming.
