Vice Minister of Science and Know-how Xu Nanping instructed state broadcaster CCTV Thursday that his ministry is strongly against the efforts that reportedly produced twin women born earlier this month.
Xu known as the group’s actions unlawful and unacceptable and mentioned an investigation had been ordered.
Researcher He Jiankui claims to have altered the DNA of the twins to attempt to make them immune to an infection with the AIDS virus. Mainstream scientists have condemned the experiment, and universities and authorities teams are investigating.
