Saunders was left fuming after Eubank Jnr appeared to mock him for ‘living in a caravan’ in a recent interview
CHRIS EUBANK JNR has responded to fierce rival Billy Joe Saunders’ claims that he has “upset a lot of gypsies” by saying he has “the greatest of respect for the travelling community”.
And Eubank called out Saunders by vowing they should settle their differences in the ring in a mega-rematch.
Saunders was left fuming after Eubank Jnr appeared to mock him for “living in a caravan” in a recent interview he gave before his world title defence against Arthur Abraham.
It led Saunders to warn Eubank Jnr that he would “need extra security” if he fights a traveller in the ring, and that he would “have bottles thrown at him” following the comments.
But Eubank Jnr has responded by saying how “honoured” he is to have fans from the travelling community – then said he wants to “sort it out” with Saunders in the ring.
Speaking exclusively to SunSport, Eubank Jnr said: “The Eubanks – me and my dad – have the greatest respect for the travelling community and we are honoured they have supported both his and my career.
“Billy Joe knows that, everyone knows that.
“My respect for him though is very different and trying to turn my words into bitterness is disrespectful to his own community.

“He has been running away from me for years and he is no way near as hard working and successful as I am.
“My achievements say it all but we can sort it out in the ring.”
Saunders, who is the only person to have defeated Eubank Jnr in his professional career, is a proud Romany gypsy.
In an interview recently Eubank Jnr gave to Behind The Gloves, he was talking about Billy Joe Saunders’ financial state and career.
He then said: “As far as I know, he is living in a caravan – so I think that says it all.”
This comment angered WBO middleweight champion Saunders, who said the travelling community were disgusted by Eubank Jnr’s words.
Speaking to iFilm TV, Saunders said: “What he don’t realise now is that he’s upset a lot of gypsies – not me, because I don’t care if someone calls me gypsy, p***y, g**o, I live in a tent, I live in a caravan, I don’t care.
“He’s lost a lot of gypsy fans. He says ‘Billy Joe lives in a caravan, that says it all,’ – that’s our culture, we live in a caravan because that’s our culture.”
Saunders then went on to say how IBO champ Eubank Jnr wants to be careful the next time he fights a traveller.
He added: “Does he even make it to the ring? He wants to step up security, because he’ll have bottles, everything thrown at him.
“To be honest, a lot of the travellers in my community are disgusted with him, English, Irish, Scotch and Welsh we are all one.”
Despite Saunders answering his critics with a split decision points victory against Eubank Jnr back in November 2014, a rematch remains a popular wish with many.
Saunders is next up in action on September 16 when he defends his world title against Willie Monroe Jnr.
Eubank is expected to have his first fight in the World Boxing Super Series in autumn against Avni Yildirim.
