WASHINGTON – Former FBI Director James Comey had harsh phrases for Home Republicans on Monday, saying their silence in response to President Donald Trump‘s assaults on the Justice Division is “shameful.”
Comey mentioned Republicans “need to have the braveness to face up and converse the reality, not be cowed by imply tweets or worry of their base.”

He was on Capitol Hill for a second closed-door interview with two Republican-led committees investigating what they are saying was bias on the Justice Division earlier than the 2016 presidential election. Republicans argue division officers conspired towards Trump as they began an investigation into his ties to Russia and cleared Democrat Hillary Clinton in a separate probe of her e mail use. Democrats have referred to as the GOP investigation “nonsense.”

Comey, who led each investigations, mocked the congressional probe, saying the questions have been about “Hillary Clinton’s emails and the Steele file” – two favorite topics of Republicans who insist there was bias within the division. The file was Democratic-funded opposition analysis on Trump’s ties to Russia compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele.
“This whereas the president of the US is mendacity concerning the FBI, attacking the FBI and attacking the rule of regulation on this nation. How does that make any sense in any respect?” Comey requested.

Trump has repeatedly gone after the FBI for bias as his marketing campaign has been beneath investigation. He has referred to as particular counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation a “hoax.” On Sunday, he referred to as his former private lawyer, Michael Cohen, a “rat” as a result of he has co-operated with prosecutors.

A transcript launched after Comey’s first interview confirmed a heavy deal with the Clinton e mail probe. A transcript of the second interview may also be launched.
