CRISTIANO RONALDO and Lionel Messi are the consensus top two players in world football – not many would dare argue that.
But tactical voting at the Best Fifa Awards so a massive 19 international captains and managers not vote for the pair AT ALL.
Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo was eventually named the men’s player of the year award, ahead of Messi and Neymar, after winning 43 per cent of the vote.
Players can’t vote for themselves… and, of course, both Ronaldo and Messi refused to vote for each other, instead naming team-mates in their top three.
As Portugal captain, Ronaldo voted for Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo, while Argentina captain Messi opted for Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Neymar.
Somehow, England manager Gareth Southgate DOES NOT believe Lionel Messi is in the top three players in world football.
The former Middlesbrough and Aston Villa star is obviously a huge fan of Real Madrid – voting three players from Los Blancos in the top three.
He named Ronaldo No 1, Modric No 2 and had a surprise choice for his third pick in midfield maestro Toni Kroos.
TAKING THE CRIS Cristiano Ronaldo’s son has brilliant reaction towards Lionel Messi when his dad wins Fifa’s The Best award in London
But it was those who named neither Messi or Ronaldo in their top three that really shocked.
Germany captain Manuel Neuer obviously discussed his picks with manager Joachim Low – neither picked Messi or Ronaldo.
Both tried to bolster Toni Kroos’ hopes, each voting for him No 1.
Neuer picked Bayern Munich team-mates Robert Lewandowski and Arturo Vidal with his next two picks, while low picked Neuer and then Neymar third.
Chris Coleman also wasn’t impressed with the superstar rivals.
He picked Sergio Ramos top, Modric second and England striker Harry Kane third overall.
Spain manager Julen Lopetegui was also tactical with his voting, picking players (Ramos, Dani Carvajal and Andres Iniesta) from his national squad.
What the likes of Bangladesh coach Andrew Ord or Montserrat captain Anthony Griffith have against Messi and Ronaldo is unknown.
Both Messi and Ronaldo were also voted into the team of the year.
