It is claimed a five or six year contract is already in place but the La Liga outfit must now negotiate with United.

De Gea reportedly told his employers he wants to leave three weeks ago, ahead of the game with Sunderland which saw him dropped.

United boss Jose Mourinho tried to downplay the move by claiming his No1 had an injury and was being rested.

He said: “I’m not interested in talking about speculation, I don’t think he should be interested in talking about it either.

“We’re playing against very important teams, every game is crucial and I don’t see that David is having any problems with this.

“The end of the season is the time when players can think about what will happen to their careers.”

A deal for De Gea, 26, would cost around £60million with United under no pressure to sell.

Marca add that Manchester City outcast Joe Hart is the man Mourinho will turn to as a replacement.

If Real fail to land De Gea, Thibaut Courtois is an alternative option.
