IT’S all programs go for May Chunk within the King George in the present day and I can’t let you know how a lot I’m trying ahead to it.

Whenever you begin out attempting to be a jockey that is what you dream of being a part of. It’s these large races you need to be concerned with and I couldn’t have a greater accomplice in May Chunk.

He’s brief within the betting contemplating it’s a very popular race with a terrific quantity of depth to it.

However he’s very well and has been doing every part proper.

I used to be very pleased with him when he received his first race of the season at Sandown.

I do know just a few individuals on TV have crabbed it however I don’t know what they anticipated actually.

We couldn’t have been extra pleased. It was the proper begin.

I can't wait to be back riding Might Bite

I am unable to wait to be again using May Chunk

I believe the difficulty was he simply went by the motions and it was most likely very boring. Folks wished a bit of pleasure – I would like it good and easy and boring.

As I’ve mentioned so many instances on this column all our horses come on for his or her first run of the season. I’m certain he’ll as nicely.

His preparation since Sandown has gone very well. He did his last piece of work on Wednesday and then we schooled him the following day.

He’ll have had a leg stretch and a breeze yesterday morning. Then, while the rest of us were tucking into the turkey, I hope he was tucked up in his stable wrapped in cotton wool.

They will have all been working hard at Seven Barrows yesterday morning. When I was there full-time I worked every Christmas Day riding out two lots.

The atmosphere is usually pretty jolly. There’s always a few bleary eyes and sore heads but generally speaking it’s good fun.

We’ve been having a good run recently. I rode a double for the guv’nor at Ascot on Friday having had a treble at Newbury a couple of days earlier.

The horses are in good shape, which is a big help. I’m feeling good about everything at the moment so hopefully it will continue over the Christmas period.

It can only be a good thing for Might Bite.

He was the best staying novice chaser last season. I know people will keep bringing up his RSA Chase antics when he put the brakes on up the run-in.

It just shows how much he had left in the tank to be able get back up to beat Whisper, who was only just touched off in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury last month.

And, believe me, Might Bite is really very straightforward.

Christmas Day was good. I went to my dad’s and enjoyed the day with my extended family.

I’m lucky I don’t struggle with my weight like some of the lads. If I was doing 10st I’d have to be careful but I’m not doing any light weights today so I could get stuck into lunch a bit.

Predictably we had the turkey with all the trimmings. I do love a good roast spud, especially when they’re done well. It was all good tradition fare.

Christmas is sometimes difficult to enjoy. It’s such a busy period for us you can’t properly let yourself down. When we had finished at Ascot on Saturday it was a chance to have a good couple of days off.

Nico on his other Boxing Day rides at Kempton

This will be my first time on Reigning Supreme (1.20) for his chase debut. He’s always shaped like a promising horse and he is going to do his best work over fences.

He’s schooled well and he’s been working well so I’m looking forward to getting the leg up on him.

He seems to have summered well and grown into his big frame. I’m expecting him to be there or thereabouts.

Take To Heart (3.40) didn’t run much of a race at Ascot last time so we’ll he’ll be hoping for a better show.

I’ve a feeling I might have got the tactics slightly wrong last time. I dropped him out in the rear – this time I’d say we’ll be bang up there.

He was very good when I won on him at Worcester and Ffos Las in the summer. He just needed a bit of time after those runs to fill out as he’s a big shell of a horse.

He might have slightly needed his first race back and I’m hoping to see a big run from him.

But once we’d heard what the Queen had to say my mind started to turn over to Boxing Day.

Last Christmas I was off injured with a broken arm so I led a very normal life.

I pretty much enjoyed myself as it was the first Christmas for ages that had any normality to it.

But enjoying time off at Christmas is definitely not what you want to be doing in my job.

I went to Kempton last year to watch Altior run and to support his owners. We had a nice lunch and I think I was in between courses when Might Bite ran.

Excited dog joins horse race at Cheltenham and keeps up with the pack

He was miles clear when taking a really nasty fall at the last fence and it was great to see him and Daryl Jacob get up. His jumping has been good since then.

When I was younger I used to always watch the King George on TV every Boxing Day – particularly when I was in my teens.

Those Kauto Star years were fantastic. It would be wonderful to win it on my first ride in the race.

Might Bite is obviously the main event but I’ve got another couple of rides on the card as well.
