Legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees fabricated being struck by lightning as part of a marketing stunt for wagering business PointsBet.

A video clip posted to Twitter on Friday revealed Brees recording a business for PointsBet in Catatumbo, Venezuela, a place understood for its lightning strikes, when a bolt obviously strikes him and knocks the production off kilter.

It was seen more than 1 million times since midday Friday.

Brees validated in a subsequent video that he’s completely great and “buzzing” about the sportsbook’s newest deal including its “lightning bets,” which permit users to make in-game wagers.

The stunt comes as online sportsbooks gain appeal and defend clients.

“Well it’s certainly a shock, literally and figuratively,” stated Patrick Rishe, director of the sports service program at Washington University inSt Louis. “I would say this is probably one of the worst decisions he’s made as a public figure.”

Rishe stated it’s clear PointsBet attempted to do something amazing to get attention in the online sports wagering market, which is controlled by DraftKings and FanDuel, “but boy, this really feels like it’s crossing the line.”

An agent for Brees did not react for remark. Brees is an ambassador for PointsBet, which trades on the Australian Stock Exchange and has operations in the United States, Canada and Ireland.
