A hearth has gutted a landmark Belfast constructing in a blaze that despatched darkish smoke billowing over the Northern Eire capital.
The Northern Eire Fireplace and Rescue Service says it was known as Tuesday morning to a blaze on the Financial institution Buildings, residence to clothes retailer Primark.
Flames engulfed the roof of the construction, destroying the rooftop clock, earlier than spreading by way of the five-story constructing.
Primark says buyers and workers had been evacuated safely, and police cordoned off the world as particles fell from the constructing.
The Financial institution Buildings date from the late 18th century, although the present construction was constructed round 1900. It was nearing the top of a serious renovation.
Joan McCoy, president of the Royal Society of Ulster Architects, says it’s “a tragic day for Belfast.”
