He came, he saw and he conquered at the Copper Box on Saturday, Davis knocking out Liam Walsh in the third round
THE Copper Box this Saturday played host to the global emergence of a new boxing superstar.
No longer the man they nicknamed the mini Mike Tyson, this undefeated 22 year old showed he’s not a copy of anyone.
Gervonta Davis was the real deal indeed as he made the first defence of his IBF super featherweight title in blistering style, stopping the very well respected and undefeated Liam Walsh in the third round.

Expectations were high for the very likeable Cromer man, who watched proudly as his twin brother Ryan captured the British featherweight title with a very determined effort against the brave Belfast battler Marco McCullough stopping his game opponent in the 11th round.
It all boded well for a family double as Liam returned to his dressing room smiling and waving to the crown in very confident mood.
The packed crowd were then given lots more to get excited about with dominating KO performances from Frank Warren’s young warriors.

Light heavyweight Anthony Yarde and the heavy-handed 19 year old Daniel Dubois, a young heavyweight who I can see being fast tracked to heavyweight glory, set the mood perfectly for the main event.
Liam Walsh entered the ring with massive support followed by Davis accompanied by his mentor and manager, the self proclaimed Money Team Floyd Mayweather.
Davis certainly didn’t have the look of someone overawed on his first overseas fight as he swaggered to the ring in purposeful mood.
The contest started with both boxers looking to use their jab, Davis the first to get his range with accurate and fast southpaw jabs finding the target.
Walsh kept his composure well trying jabs from the Southpaw and orthodox stance but not with the authority needed to take control.
Indeed it was Davis who landed with a hard overhand left knocking the head of Walsh backwards sharply late in the opening round.
This was a very different Gervonta Davis than the one we saw in January when he ripped the IBF title from Champion Jose Pedraza.
This time he showed patience as he waited till the precise moment in the third round to let his shots go flooring Walsh heavily with a quick combination before stepping in for the finish.
Referee Michael Alexander stepped in quickly to save Walsh from severe battering in third round.
Davis showed great boxing ability, fast hands and excellent power as he dealt with a well respected challenger with relative ease as he took his undefeated tally to 18 with 17 wins coming by way of KO.
In the process it has paved the way to future super fights against the likes of WBO Champion Vasyl Lomachenko.
We can but dream.
