Revolutionary concept hands YOU chance to give your favourite’s car extra 100kj of energy to speed him to glory
BRITISH Formula E star Sam Bird is targeting history in Monaco this weekend – and is calling on his supporters help to drive him to success.
The 30-year-old from Roehampton is with his DS Virgin Racing team-mate Jose Maria Lopez in Monte Carlo bidding to claim the team’s first E Prix victory of the season on Saturday.
But it will not just be his driving skills that could make the difference between the podium and a near-miss.
YOU could be the one to help accelerate him into pole position.

A revolutionary new concept has been introduced into the fast-rising electric racing game called Fan Boost.
By simply using a specialised hashtag to register your vote online, you could give your chosen driver’s car an extra 100kj of energy to speed him to glory.
And Bird believes that it allows race-lovers to enjoy an experience like no other.
Speaking exclusively to SunSport, he explained: “It’s a lovely concept for fans.
“There’s no other sport in the world that allows a fan to have a direct influence on their favourite sportsman or team.
“You can go to cricket, rugby, football and you put your shirt on and support and that’s nice.
“But with Formula E, a fan can go online and put a vote in for their favourite driver to get them an extra three seconds of boost in their second car.
“If their driver gets that boost and they overtake to get the win, then the fan can feel a real sense of having a direct influence and generally know they’ve helped.
“They didn’t just sit on the sofa supporting, they made a difference and their vote mattered.”
Having enjoyed success in a F3, the World Series by Renault and spending three years as a reserve driver Williams in Formula One, few are better equipped to offer a judgement on the rapidly-growing Formula E than Bird.
And he feels that the electric option really does send shockwaves through the rest of the racing world.
Bird said: “It really is wheel-to-wheel action all the way through the grid. You have 20 of the best drivers on the planet in a world-class grid racing on street circuits around the globe.
“I think it’s very relevant technology for the planet with where we are right now and i think there is more overtaking than most single-seating formulas.
“So, all those combined, it makes it a pretty exciting championship.”
And having been recruited by DS Virgin Racing team principal Alex Tai, there really is nowhere else he would rather be.
Although he does admit that he and Lopez need to start getting some points on the board, with the Brit currently fifth in the drivers’ standings and Virgin third in the team ones.
“I had a meeting with Alex and I was excited about working with Richard Branson and his team and I’m still here – so I must be doing something right.
“The wins that we have had together have been the best moments so far. I’ve had three victories in my short Formula E career.
“But we are still missing a win this season.
“We’ve had a second and a third but we need to go one better this weekend.
“We have got the pace and know-how – we need to execute it.”
