Gal Gadot Breaks Her Silence on Backlash Over Cleopatra Casting - E! Online

Revealed: The Secrets our Clients Used to Earn $3 Billion

Gal Gadot isn’t letting issues over her Cleopatra casting avoid her from making the upcoming film.

The starlet participated in a current interview with BBC Arabic to promote her brand-new movie Wonder Woman 1984. During the look, Gal was inquired about Egyptians who feel that the star’s function as Queen of that country is an example of Hollywood whitewashing.

“First of all, if you wish to be real to the realities, then Cleopatra was Macedonian,” the 35-year-old Justice League star responded. “We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn’t there. And I was very passionate about Cleopatra.”

Gal explained that she discovers the story to be a universal one, and one that she quite thinks in assisting director Patty Jenkins to inform.

“To me, as a people’s lover, and I have friends from across the globe, whether they’re Muslims or Christian or Catholic or atheist or Buddhist or Jewish, of course,” she stated. “People are people. And with me, I want to celebrate the legacy of Cleopatra and honor this amazing historic icon that I admire so much.”

The starlet included, “But, you know, anybody can make this movie, and anybody can go ahead and do it. I’m very passionate that I’m going to do my own, too.”
