An look by Garrison Keillor, former host of “A Prairie House Companion,” at a Vermont e book competition has been canceled after public outcry.

Burlington E book Competition Founding Director Rick Kisonak confirmed to Vermont Public Radio that the Oct. 14 fundraising occasion wouldn’t happen.

Competition organizers have confronted criticism over the scheduled look of the 76-year-old public radio character accused of sexual harassment.

Final November, Minnesota Public Radio severed ties with Keillor over the accusations.

Keillor has denied the allegations.

Competition founding director Rick Kisonak wrote in an e-mail that “the surprising response on social media made it obvious some folks seen his reserving as our condoning of sexual harassment.” He says “nothing may very well be farther from the reality.”
