Former President George W. Bush revealed in an interview launched Sunday that he requested his late father for permission to convey Russian President Vladimir Putin to go to the household’s famed compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Talking to CBS Information’ “60 Minutes,” Bush recalled that years in the past throughout his presidency, he instructed his father, former President George H.W. Bush, who died Friday, that he wanted a spot to convey Putin throughout the Russian chief’s journey to the U.S. in July 2007.
“I stated, ‘Dad, I want a spot to convey Vladimir Putin. Would you thoughts if I introduced him to Kennebunkport?'” Bush remembered. He added that he requested “realizing full properly that Putin would say, ‘Wow, that is actually nice.’ And [George H.W. Bush] stated, ‘In no way.’ And he — so Putin lands.”
The elder Bush was at “the foot of the steps” to greet the Russian president as he arrived on the house and, in response to his son, requested Putin if he wished to exit on the household boat.
“Putin stated, ‘Oh, I would like to go.’ And so Putin has this interpreter that is type of — you understand — did not seem like a lot of an outdoorsman,'” Bush stated, laughing. “And the outdated man opens that factor up full blast and this man, I am standing to this interpreter, he is like white knuckles, you understand, hanging on to the boat questioning if he will dwell. And he is chopping by way of these waves, it is simply traditional George Bush.”

The 43rd president of the U.S. stated Putin “cherished it,” including that Putin is “type of one in all these macho dudes that — salt spray comin’ throughout, you understand, and he thought it was great… The interpreter was nerve-wracked.”
