On Dec. 30, Dawn Wells, star of Gilligan’s Island, passed away in Los Angeles of problems from the coronavirus, her representative validated to The Hollywood Reporter. She was 82.

Wells represented the sweet, Kansas born-and-bred Mary Ann Summers on the renowned CBS comedy. Mary Ann, in addition to a number of other travelers, was marooned on an island after a casual boat trip went south due to a storm. Hijinks took place as the team made their mark on their brand-new island house.

The series ran for 3 seasons from 1964 to 1967, and made a significant splash in popular culture. Several TELEVISION motion pictures were made after the program ended, and the cast went on to emerge on other programs like ALF and Roseanne in character. 

“I don’t get tired of it because I’m greeted with love everywhere I go,” Wells informed Penn Live of permanently being called the renowned comedy character. “It’s been a challenging time breaking the image acting-wise. You understand, to go and play a genuine nasty lady. They constantly state, ‘Mary Ann? Are you joking?’ To surpass that is so ridiculous due to the fact that I’m not that individual which individual [is] going to be on [television] the rest of my life time, more than likely, however I’m welcomed with love.”
