Three German gymnasts are raising the bar for how females are dealt with in their sport, beginning with the uniforms.
Sarah Voss broke away from conventional leotards throughout her efficiency at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships recently. The forward-thinking professional athlete rather chose a full-body fit with long sleeves and trousers for her regular, which occurred in Basel, Switzerland.
According to the BBC, the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) stated the gymnasts took a stand versus “sexualisation in gymnastics” with the make overs, which it thinks can assist avoid sexual assault within the female-centric sport. The outlet keeps in mind that DTB guidelines specify that gymnasts can use a “one-piece leotard with full-length legs—hip to ankle.”
Voss, 21, stated, “We hope gymnasts uncomfortable in the usual outfits will feel emboldened to follow our example.”
As she informed Germany’s nationwide public tv broadcaster, ZDF, “We, women, all want to feel good in our skin. In the sport of gymnastics it gets harder and harder as you grow out of your child’s body. As a little girl I didn’t see the tight gym outfits as such a big deal. But when puberty began, when my period came, I began feeling increasingly uncomfortable.”
