THE New Yr is almost upon us, however I am stuffed with hope we will finish 2017 by taking a number of quid off my associates at Sunbets!

ITV present racing Saturday from Newbury and Haydock, and I am heading to Newbury for the community.

Let’s begin with the 1.50pm, a handicap hurdle over an prolonged 2m4f. Not many in nice type, and I will have a number of quid each-way on DIABLE DE SIVOLA for Nick Williams and Lizzie Kelly.

Information Group Newspapers Ltd

The choice hasn’t been in successful type, however has been constant and can love the heavy floor.

It is the Mandarin handicap chase at 2.25pm over an prolonged 3m1f, and stamina shall be completely key.

SHOTGUN PADDY goes within the floor and stays all day so he would possibly run nicely for Emma Lavelle and Nick Schofield.

At three.00pm is the Grade 1 Challow over an prolonged 2m4f, and KILBRICKEN STORM shall be exhausting to beat after a win at Cheltenham the opposite day.

The drop in trip will be no problem and Harry Cobden is a good booking.

Finally at Newbury just a small field for the handicap chase over an extended 2m6f at 3.35pm.

The one to beat is ROCKLANDER, who unseated last time but previously had won well.

He’s going to take a bit of stopping.

Up at Haydock ITV show a handicap chase over an extended 3m3f and this will be some marathon.

Matt Chapman’s TV tips

1.50 Newbury – Diable De Sivola: ‘Consistent and will love the heavy ground’ (add to your betslip)

2.10 Haydock – Emperor’s Choice: ‘Mud and a slog is what he wants on a going day’ (add to your betslip)

2.25 Newbury – Shotgun Paddy: ‘Stays all day and has a good chance’ (add to your betslip)

3.00 Newbury – Kilbricken Storm: ‘The drop in trip is no problem and will be hard to beat’ (add to your betslip)

3.15 Taunton – Maria’s Benefit: ‘Impressed at Sandown two runs ago and followed up at Ludlow’ (add to your betslip)

2.45 Haydock – Wolf Sword: ‘Goes in the ground and is gradually improving’ (add to your betslip)

3.35 Newbury – Rocklander: ‘Going to take a bit of stopping’ (add to your betslip)

The one who will relish the test is EMPEROR’S CHOICE, who has run well at the track before for Venetia Williams. Mud and a slog is what he wants on a going day.

The 2.45pm at Haydock is a handicap chase over an extended 2m4f. This is competitive, and I like the look of WOLF SWORD for Sue Smith. My selection goes in the ground and is gradually improving.

Finally, ITV also show the 3.15pm at Taunton, a Listed mares’ novices’ hurdle.

This is a decent event that can go to MARIA’S BENEFIT for Stuart Edmunds. She really impressed at Sandown two runs ago and followed up at Ludlow.

So best of luck and let’s hope we have some Yeeehaaas. I’ll be back New Year’s Day. You Betcha!

Jockey Jack Kennedy clings to his horse but gets back in the saddle and amazingly goes on to win the race
