After a lengthy counting process, Joe Biden has finally been declared the winner of the 2020 US election, and will be the next President of the United States.
The result took some time to be determined, with several states taking some time to count all of their votes – with more postal votes being made than ever in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The new president will take office in mid-January – but how many votes did Biden win by?

How many votes did Joe Biden win by in the US election?
The results saw Joe Biden win the presidency ahead of Donald Trump by amassing 284 electoral college seats to 214.
However, the outcome of the election is not decided by votes, but by electoral college points, which are amassed by each of the candidates each time they win the vote in a state.
One candidate has to get 270 points to be named winner.
While certain states traditionally always vote either Democrat or Republican, it was the results of the ‘swing states’ – those where the vote was close, and the result could go either way – which ultimately decided the outcome.
Pennsylvania called the defining result.
Joe Biden sat on 264 votes for days, until Pennsylvania – which has a massive 20 electoral college votes – announced Biden as the winner on Saturday.
This brought his total to 284 votes – 14 more than he needed to win the election.
