The Monaco teenager is wanted by Arsenal and Real Madrid

Unsurprisingly, the 18-year-old is wanted by Europe’s top clubs.

The Gunners have already had an £87m offer turned down and Mbappe is said to favour a move to Real Madrid.

Which begs the question: how much would the Premier League’s best players have been worth at 18 in today’s market?

We asked our friends at Football Whispers to crunch the numbers.

Thierry Henry

One of the best finishers of all time in the Premier League. The Frenchman cost Arsenal a bargain £12m when he joined from Juventus as a little-known left winger in 1999.

But Arsene Wenger knew what he was getting and converted the 1998 World Cup winner from a flighty wideman to one of Europe’s most-feared forwards.

Henry overtook Ian Wright’s goalscoring record in his first spell at the club, netting 226 times in all competitions and winning two Premier League titles, before joining Barcelona in 2007 for just £16m.

He returned on loan from New York Red Bulls in 2012, scoring twice for Wenger’s men before retiring in 2014.

Ryan Giggs

Part of Manchester United’s fabled Class of 92, Giggs did not cost United anything and gave the Old Trafford club 24 years as a player before retiring in 2014.

In that time the Welshman became English football’s most decorated player, winning the Premier League (13), Champions League (2), FA Cup (4), League Cup (4), Community Shield (9), UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Giggs also holds the record for the most Premier League assists with 271 and finished a glittering career with more than 1,000 career appearances for United and Wales.

He served on the coaching staff of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal before leaving United last summer when Jose Mourinho was appointed manager.

Frank Lampard

There was a time when the £11m Chelsea paid to sign Lampard from West Ham United was seen as bad business from the Blues.

But Lampard proved his doubters wrong in 13 trophy-laden years at Stamford Bridge, becoming Chelsea’s greatest player and leading scorer by bagging 211 goals from midfield to overtake Bobby Tambling.

He was pivotal as the Blues won their first Premier League title in 2005 under Jose Mourinho. He followed that up with a second the following season. He added a third in 2010 under Carlo Ancelotti.

Lampard left Stamford Bridge in 2014 with 14 honours to his name, including the club’s first Champions League trophy.

Steven Gerrard

Few could have predicted the force of nature that Gerrard would become when he graduated from Liverpool’s academy in 1998 and debuted as a substitute against Blackburn Rovers.

But the Whiston-born midfielder would go on to win nine honours in 17 seasons at Anfield, becoming the only player to score in FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and UEFA Cup finals – lifting each trophy to boot.

The Miracle of Istanbul Champions League final was Gerrard’s defining moment. With Liverpool trailing 3-0 he scored the first goal as Rafa Benitez’s side came from behind to win on penalties against a great AC Milan side.

Gerrard cost Liverpool nothing and could have left on more than one occasion with Chelsea and Real Madrid linked with his services. He moved to LA Galaxy in 2015 having scored 185 times from midfield for the Reds.

Rio Ferdinand

One of the more cultured and sophisticated centre-halves in Premier League history, Ferdinand came through West Ham’s famed academy.

At one time he was the most expensive defender in football.

At 21 Ferdinand joined David O’Leary’s attractive Leeds United side in an £18m deal but was only at Elland Road for two years before moving to rivals Manchester United for a record £30m.

Many scoffed at Ferdinand’s price tag but he was worth every penny, winning the Premier League (6), Champions League, League Cup (6), Community Shield (6) and FIFA World Club Cup.

Wayne Rooney

At 16 Rooney announced himself to the Premier League by scoring a sumptuous goal for Everton against Arsenal to become the league’s youngest scorer.

At 18 he moved to Manchester United in 2004 in a £25.6m deal which made him the most expensive teenager ever.

But Sir Alex Ferguson liked what he had seen and his judgement, not for the last time, was justified.

Cristiano Ronaldo

The only other member of this list still playing, Ronaldo briefly became the world’s most expensive teenager when he joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon for £12m after impressing in a pre-season friendly against Ferguson’s side.

The Portuguese netted 118 goals for United in six years and won nine trophies – including the 2008 Champions League against Chelsea – before being granted a world-record £80m move to Real Madrid.
