Humans have killed 60 percent of world’s wildlife since 1970, World Wildlife Fund says

Nobody can argue that people aren’t the dominant species — for higher or worse.

World Wildlife Fund launched an alarming report Tuesday asserting that people are immediately answerable for killing off a mean of 60 % of the world’s mammals, fish, birds and reptiles — in simply over 40 years.

“Earth is shedding biodiversity at a fee seen solely throughout mass extinctions,” say WWF’s Dwelling Planet Report authors.

The WWF collected information on greater than four,000 species globally between 1970 and 2014. The take-away: Humanity’s insatiable urge for food for Earth’s pure assets — power, land, water — and a rising food-production trade, is resulting in “over-exploitation.”


The WWF urges international leaders to hitch forces to, properly, save the planet.

“Resolution makers at each stage have to make the suitable political, monetary and shopper decisions to realize the imaginative and prescient that humanity and nature thrive in concord on our solely planet.”

They higher transfer quick: Researchers estimate that solely one-tenth of the world’s land mass has been spared from human consumption. South and Central America have suffered the best impression, with some 89 % of their vertebrate species misplaced.
