Tennis legend slammed over alleged racist and sexist comments insists he previously said nothing out of order
ILIE NASTASE has astonishingly claimed he could only be considered racist if he had said Serena Williams was to have an “ugly, black baby”.
The controversial tennis legend has met a barrage of criticism following alleged racist and sexist insults toward Williams and Brit star Johanna Konta.
Nastase said of the world No 1’s unborn child: “Let’s see what colour it has. Chocolate with milk?”
That was in reference to Williams’ relationship with white Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
Williams has since slammed the Romania Fed Cup team captain for “making racist comments”.
But Nastase reckons he would be the “bad boy” if he says anything more about the 23-time Grand Slam winner.
Asked today about Williams’ Instagram post, Nastase said: “Anything I say, I am the bad boy.”
And he denied that his original “chocolate milk” comment was racist.
In an interview with Romanian website news.ro he said: “If I said she would have an ugly, black baby, that would have been racist.”
Nastase also questioned the legitimacy of writing about his initial comments ahead of the Fed Cup series against Britain.
He said: “Why write a news story like this? Just to have a scandal? There are many more important things going on.”

Williams’ post also referred to Nastase’s “sexist comments against my peers” – a reference to his verbal abuse directed at British player Johanna Konta, British captain Anne Keothavong and the chair umpire during Fed Cup matches over the weekend.
Nastase called the Brit duo “f***ing b****es” for complaining after Konta was disturbed by the crowd during a point.
