Gunners star reacted furiously to late challenge and was shown a straight red for violent action
RAGING Jack Wilshere was sent off for Arsenal Under-23s after flooring a Manchester City player and sparking a brawl on the pitch before then fighting in the tunnel.
The Gunners midfielder reacted furiously to being hit with a late tackle and responded by shoving the City player to the ground.
Wilshere, who Emirates boss Arsene Wenger says still has a future at the club, was shown a straight red card for the offence on Matt Smith.
The former Bournemouth loanee was sent marching in the 63rd minute after Smith’s late barge.
He fronted up to the City star and sent him to the floor while referee Samuel Allison tried to get get between the pair.
Then another City player, Tyreke Wilson, flew into Wilshere and appeared to aim a kick at the England star while also going in with his head.
Some seven players were then involved in a tussle in the centre circle before Wilshere – who did not try to appeal his red card – and Wilson were sent to the showers.
But it was while walking down the tunnel that the pair then became embroiled in another fiery confrontation before eventually being separated.
Wilshere will not be banned for any senior matches as a result.
Under new Football Association rules he will miss three non-first team games.
But his shocking reaction does raise questions over his temperament and state of mind with the Premier League season still in its early stages.
Equally infuriating is the fact Wilshere – who is continuing his recovery after fracturing his leg against Spurs in April – was controlling things in midfield until that point.
He laid on an inch-perfect assist as Arsenal went on to win 4-3.
The scenes at the Emirates went on as Manchester City defender Kyle Walker was sent off against Everton in the Premier League game at the Etihad.
