WikiLeaks creator Julian Assange will deal with an extradition hearing in February, a British judge ruled Friday. Assange is waiting to find out whether the UK will extradite him to the United States, where he deals with charges of conspiring to hack federal government computer systems.

UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid authorized the United States Justice Department’s demand on Thursday, however it depends on the court to choose whether the extradition will go on.

The United States extradition demand notes 18 charges associated with threatening nationwide security. Assange informed the court that his life was “effectively at stake” if he is extradited, according to Bloomberg. He preserved that WikiLeaks is simply a “publisher” and didn’t break any laws to obtain info.

Assange appeared through video link at a hearing at Westminster Magistrate’s Court in London on Friday from Belmarsh Prison, where he’s being held. Last month, the 47-year-old was sentenced to 50 weeks in prison in the UK for avoiding bail in 2012. 

At the time, Sweden was trying to extradite Assange on rape accusations. He pulled back to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he declared asylum and remained there up until authorities jailed him in April. Sweden dropped the examination in 2017 due to the fact that it could not continue while Assange stayed in the embassy, however district attorneys kept in mind at the time that they had not cleared him.

On top of battling extradition, Assange is appealing his sentence for avoiding bail. Meanwhile, authorities in Sweden are thinking about resuming the rape case versus him. Assange rejects all charges versus him.
