LAURENT KOSCIELNY has told Arsenal he wants to be released from his contract for free so he can move back to France, it has been claimed.
The veteran centre-half has refused to travel to the Gunners’ pre-season tour of America in the hope of forcing through a move.
According to Football London, sources close to the Frenchman are refusing to comment on the situation.
Arsenal are said to be ‘shellshocked and hugely disappointed that such a respected player is acting in such a manner’.
With interest from Lyon and Bordeaux, the club captain seems determined to engineer a move away from the Emirates but the news has seemingly come out of the blue.
Arsenal are said to be sympathetic to the 33-year-old’s desire to move home but are understandably unwilling to rip up his £90k-a-week contract.
Betfair’s latest odds on Laurent Koscielny’s next club
Laurent Koscielny to sign for before 9th August 2019:
Bordeaux – 8/11
Lyon – 13/2
PSG – 12/1
Juventus – 18/1
Bayern Munich – 20/1
Real Madrid – 20/1
Man Utd – 22/1
Barcelona – 25/1
The Gunners look set to fine the Frenchman, strip him of the captaincy and force him to train with the kids as punishment.
In a statement released on Arsenal’s website they said: “We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.
“We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time.”
Shortly after the statement was released Arsenal tweeted their squad for the tour and Koscielny was not on the list.
While the club do not want to let him go for nothing, it seems likely they will have to consider selling their long-serving captain.
