Featherweight champ wants to face the Jackal before the end of the year
WORLD featherweight champ Lee Selby wants to face Carl Frampton before the end of the year.
Frampton was meant to fight Andres Gutierrez at the weekend but it was postponed – the Mexican picked serious injuries after falling in the shower.
The Frampton-Gutierrez fight was meant to be a title eliminator, but the Northern Irish star came in overweight.
Welsh star Selby, who has held the IBF strap since beating Evgeny Gradovich in May 2015, has now said that Belfast-born Frampton needs to hurry up.
He said: “I won’t be waiting around for nobody.
“Whoever comes first with a contract that my team are happy with then we will be signing that and fighting.
“He should come straight now into a world title fight against me. It makes sense rather than waiting around.”
Frampton’s manager Barry McGuigan revealed that work has already started on rearranging the Gutierrez bout – although it depends how long it takes to recover from his injuries, which included two broken teeth and bruising.

But Selby, who beat Jonathan Victor Barros at Wembley earlier this month, says Frampton and McGuigan should skip the eliminator and head straight for him.
“Should they abandon plans to rearrange with Gutierrez? That would make sense,” he added.
“We should do it in October or November now.
“He should come straight now into a world title fight against me.
“It makes sense rather than waiting around.
“Do they know how long this guy will take to recover? I don’t know. As I say I’m not waiting around.
“I want the big fights so whoever comes first.”
