ANDERLECHT star Kara Mbodji has snubbed the Premier League to pledge his future to the Belgian champions.

Crystal Palace and Leicester led the chase for the £10million-rated Senegal defender, with Swansea and Huddersfield also interested.

But centre-back Mbodji, 27, has instead signed a one-year contract extension until 2020 with the Brussels club.

An Anderlecht spokesman said: “Despite interest from various European clubs, we have reached an agreement with Kara to extend his contract.

“The 27-year-old defensive leader will now stay at Parc Astrid until 2020.  We are delighted to be able to count on the Senegal international’s services in the seasons to come.”

The Senegal international joined Anderlecht in 2015 from Genk and has since made 61 appearance for the club.

Mbodji’s best position is centre-back but he is equally as adept at playing in holding midfield.

He has also been capped 39 times for Senegal and represented his country at the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
