Leopardstown, Leicester and Catterick all call inspections for Thursday’s race meetings as the weather causes chaos

LEOPARDSTOWN, Leicester and Catterick should all cross morning inspections if racing is to forward on the tracks on Thursday.

Chepstow’s Welsh Nationwide card was deserted after the course was waterlogged on Wednesday, and now three extra race conferences are doubtful.

Leopardstown have referred to as a precautionary inspection at 7.30am forward of day three of the Leopardstown Christmas Competition . That is because of the danger of frost and fog in a single day.

Leicester have referred to as an 8am inspection tomorrow with the course at the moment lined by between one and two inches of snow.

Whereas a largely dry and cloudy day is forecast, temperatures will not be resulting from rise above 3C and will dip under freezing on Wednesday evening.

Clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson mentioned: “We have got a little bit of all the pieces in the mean time.

“We have now between one and two inches of snow on the observe after having 25 millimetres (of combined precipitation) in a single day, with a little bit of rain combined in.

“The very first thing we’d like is for the snow to maneuver. The issue we’d have then, after all, is waterlogging as the bottom is already heavy beneath.

“We’ll have to see what sort of a mess we have once the snow is gone, and we might get a touch of frost as well.

“It’s going to be a tough battle.”

Catterick must survive an 8am precautionary inspection due to the threat of overnight frost.

Clerk of the course Fiona Needham said: “If the forecast is correct we shouldn’t have any problems, the course is perfectly raceable at present.

“They are predicting minus 1C and if that is what we get, we’ll be fine.

“However, at this time of year it only takes the forecast to be a degree or two worse and you can be caught out.

“Looking at the pictures from the rest of the country, though, we’re getting away lightly.”
