MACCLESFIELD fans threw a piece of GLASS at Cambridge United goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov in Saturday’s 1-1 draw.
The game, which secured the Silkmen’s League Two status, had to be stopped as the officials, stewards and players were picking the objects up from the pitch.
SunSport understands that Mitov had plastic cups and coins hurled at him in the heated League Two clash at Moss Rose.
As the visitors were leading 1-0, the game had to be stopped for a lengthy spell before United’s penalty area was cleared from the objects thrown onto the pitch.
Following the break, the Silkmen managed to equalise through Elliot Durrell’s second-half strike.
The delay could have potentially gained a massive advantage for Macclesfield.
