A 43- year-old guy assaulted New York Republican gubernatorial candidateRep Lee Zeldin at an upstate project occasion Thursday night.
Zeldin was not damaged in the occurrence, which took place as he was speaking outside a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Fairport, a town near Rochester, NBC News reported.
Zeldin stated he got the assaulter’s wrist and stopped him for a couple of minutes prior to others took on the guy.
The assaulter, determined by 3 senior police authorities as David Jakubonis of Fairport, was controlled by members of the audience after he charged Zeldin, WHEC-TV reported.
That NBC affiliate reported that audience members deactivated the guy, and put him in zip-ties that were pulled from project posters.
The suspect might have had some sort of bladed instrument, NBC News reported.
Zeldin, who represents a congressional district in Suffolk County, Long Island, is campaigning to unseatGov Kathy Hochul, a Democrat.
Hochul in a tweet composed: “Relieved to hear that Congressman Zeldin was not injured and that the suspect is in custody.”
“I condemn this violent behavior in the strongest terms possible — it has no place in New York,” Hochul tweeted.
Hochul took workplace in 2015 afterGov Andrew Cuomo resigned in disgrace following allegations of unwanted sexual advances by almost a lots ladies.
