The incredible incident began when a driver, later reportedly identified as Girish Sharma, drove straight through the main gate of the Airforce ground.
Cars should be checked at the gate but instead the driver is thought to have got in unchallenged.
He then failed to head for the parking area – behind the main pavilion – and drove onto the field of play, all the way out to the middle.
Security personnel at last responded effectively once he stopped his car.
They closed the gate to stop him escaping.
First Cricket say the “allegedly inebriated man” was held by the Airforce Police and then handed over to Delhi Police for questioning.
