Get all the info to bash the bookies as ITV’s Matt Chapman runs you through a busy Saturday
IT’S Shergar Cup day at Ascot on Saturday, and the ITV4 cameras will be there in force to bring you all the action.
I know many punters turn their nose up at this fixture, but I love it and fully intend to take a few quid off my friends at Sunbets!
Let’s start with the 1.05pm, a 5f handicap.
The class act is Tropics, and he’s well handicapped now, but I want to have a few quid each-way on LEXINGTON ABBEY, who was right back to form when fourth behind Danzeno at this track last time.
Kerrin McEvoy is a great booking for Kevin Ryan.
Next up at 1.40pm is a handicap over 2m, and I want to be each-way with old boy ANGEL GABRIAL, who has run well the last twice including at York last time.

Ascot 1.05 – Lexington Abbey: ‘Back to form when a cracking fourth behind Danzeno at this track’ (add to your betslip)
Ascot 1.40 – Angel Gabrial: ‘Run well the last twice and stays strong’ (add to your betslip)
Haydock 1.55 – Zubayr: ‘Good second last time and turf is no problem’ (add to your betslip)
Ascot 2.15 – Mukhayyam: ‘Good winner at Ripon last time and can defy the penalty’ (add to your betslip)
Haydock 2.30 – Laraaib – ‘Impressive at Ascot last time and is improving all the time’ (add to your betslip)
Ascot 2.50 – Knight Owl: ‘Has some good form in the book so can bounce back’ (add to your betslip)
Ascot 3.25 – Italian Heiress: ‘Lightly raced and can improve for the step up in trip’ (add to your betslip)
Newmarket 3.40 – Poetic Charm: ‘Looked hugely promising when making a winning debut here’ (add to your betslip)
Ascot 4.00 – Nobly Born: ‘Wasn’t beaten far last time and I’m expecting a big effort’ (add to your betslip)
He stays strong for Richard Fahey and won’t lack in the saddle with Umberto Rispoli, a Dettori-like sensation back home.
There’s a 1m4f handicap at 2.15pm at Ascot, and I will bet MUKHAYYAM to notch up a hat-trick for Tim Easterby and Hayley Turner.
A good winner at Ripon last time, the selection is up 6lb but may well defy the penalty and looks straight forward to ride.

Hollie Doyle in line to replace Michelle Payne in Saturday’s Shergar Cup at Ascot if required
LIGHT THE WICK
Templegate’s top tips for all of ITV’s races at Glorious Goodwood on Tuesday, August 1
The 2.50pm at Ascot is a 1m handicap, and I want to be each-way on KNIGHT OWL here for James Fanshawe and Fran Berry.
My hope was poor last time at Newmarket, but he has some good form in the book and hopefully can bounce back.
The penultimate Ascot event is the 1m4f Classic Handicap at 3.25, and hopefully the lightly raced ITALIAN HEIRESS will improve a little bit for a step up in distance for Clive Cox.
The selection ran well over 1m2f last time staying on.
Finally it’s the Sprint at 4.00pm, and I’d expect a big effort from NOBLY BORN, who wasn’t beaten far at Newmarket last time for Johnny G.
Adrie de Vries picks up the ride and he’s perfectly capable.
ITV4 also shows racing from Haydock on Saturday, and the 1.55pm is an extended 1m3f lady riders’ handicap.
ZUBAYR should be a big runner her for Megan Nicholls and her old man, former champion jumps trainer Paul. He ran a fine second at Kempton last time and turf is no issue.
The 2.30pm at Haydock is the Group 3 Rose of Lancaster over an extended 1m2f, and improver LARAAIB could easily pick up a a fourth win on the bounce.
He was impressive at Ascot last time off a mark of 95 and might still score again off 103.
ITV4 show one race from Newmarket, which is the Sweet Solera at 3.40pm.
Others have better form, but I will take a chance with Godolphin’s unbeaten POETIC CHARM, who looked hugely promising when making a winning debut over course and distance.
So best of luck everyone. A tough weekend. But let’s hope for a Yeeehaaa or two. You Betcha!
