Get all the info to bash the bookies as ITV’s Matt Chapman runs you through the cards on a busy Saturday
BANK HOLIDAY weekends are always a busy time for racing and there are eight meetings in the UK and Ireland to enjoy.
The ITV4 cameras will be at Musselburgh and Haydock, so let’s see what damage we can do at those fixtures.
I’m heading to Musselburgh, and it’s a tricky card for finding winners. The 1.50pm is a 7f handicap and tactical pace always key.

I’ll have a few quid each-way on GURKHA FRIEND, who is well placed in stall six to try and get out and make all the running.
If he gets to the lead could be hard to pass for Karen McLintock.
The 2.25pm is a conditions race over 5f. There’s no doubt the best horse in the line-up is old boy MONSIEUR JOE, and even at the age of 10 he might well be good enough to score.
A nightmare of a handicap stares us in the face at 3.00pm over 1m. Have an each-way poke here on RASHFORD’S DOUBLE, who came through nicely from off the pace when winning on his final start last season.
He has a reasonable berth and can go close.
Finally at Musselburgh it’s the Queen’s Cup over 1m6f at 3.35pm, and I like SHREWD each-way for Iain Jardine.
This seven-year-old stays really strong and might outpower a few of these if ready after an absence.

Over at Haydock ITV4 covers the 2.05pm, a handicap chase over nearly 2m4f. BALLYBOLLEY gets the distance well and will appreciate some good ground. He should be hard to keep out the frame for Nigel Twiston-Davies.
The 2.40pm is a handicap chase over 3m, and I like FORT WORTH for jonjo O’Neill. He’s not that well handicapped, but he’s running well and stays this distance so we should get a run for our money.
Matt Chapman’s TV Tips
- 1.50 Musselburgh – GURKHA FRIEND
- 2.05 Haydock – BALLYBOLLEY
- 2.25 Musselburgh – MONSIEUR JOE
- 2.40 Haydock – FORT WORTH
- 3.00 Musselburgh – RASHFORD’S DOUBLE
- 3.15 Haydock – OUR THOMAS
- 3.35 Musselburgh – SHREWD
Killian Moore takes off 3lb which will help.
Finally at Haydock there’s a handicap hurdle over just under 2m at 3.15pm. I like OUR THOMAS, who has been running decent races without winning. He might get in the frame here for Tim Easterby.
So best of luck and let’s hope for a few Yeeehaaas.
