Supporters of Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters reportedly burned and stomped on an American flag they snatched off a pickup truck Thursday, whereas chanting “Black energy” exterior her California workplace. 

The demonstrators confirmed up with the intent of countering a deliberate protest from a far-right group. 

That group, the Oath Keepers, had mentioned they’d rally in opposition to the congresswoman they name a “protest terrorist inciter” early Thursday afternoon, prompting counterprotesters to rally in help of Waters. However the Oath Keepers didn’t arrive, the Los Angeles Instances reported.

Nonetheless, just a few dozen pro-Waters counterprotesters, together with union employees, church leaders, South Los Angeles residents and members of activist teams, gathered exterior the workplace round noon.

Some demonstrators chanted, “Black energy,” whereas different held indicators that learn, “Resist!”

In some unspecified time in the future through the protest, a automobile with an American flag on the again approached and was stopped by the group.

Some protesters opened the automotive doorways whereas others grabbed the flag because the automobile drove off.

The flag was then stepped on and set ablaze as somebody stoked the flames. Just a few folks cheered and somebody yelled, “This isn’t the American flag, that is their flag.”

Nobody was injured and police made no arrests.

It remained unclear if the automotive that drove by Thursday was related to the Oath Keepers.

Waters issued an announcement criticizing the Oath Keepers.

“The Oath Keepers would really like nothing greater than to inflame racial tensions and create an explosive battle in our group,” Waters wrote.
