A group of gold miners tamed an orphaned polar bear ‘like a dog’ after fearing she would pass away without her mum.
They satisfied the cub after she began wandering alone trying to find food after losing her mum on the remote Russian island of Bolshevik.
The young animal was drawn in by the odor of cooking at one of the mines, and asked for food.
The miners chose to look after the bear – regardless of rigorous guidelines prohibiting this as they lose the capability to hunt – and conserved her life.
‘The female cub spent several months living close to humans, and got so used to them that it behaved like a dog,’ stated a report.
A video reveals the bear climbing up a ladder and hugging an employee at the gold in the Severnaya Zemlya island chain, high in the Arctic.
But when the miners went back to the mainland after finishing their agreement, they got in touch with the authorities after believing she might not endure.
Andrey Gorban, director of Royev Ruchei Zoo in Krasnoyarsk which led the rescue, stated: ‘The employees might just contact us at the end of their work stint, as they had no interaction link at the base.
‘We were informed that the guys were leaving back to the mainland, and the cub had actually remained there alone.
