ANOTHER journey to Eire is on the agenda for Merely Ned after Nicky Richards urged the Punchestown Pageant is his deliberate goal.

The 11-year-old has been a stellar performer for Richards for a few years and claimed the largest victory of his tremendous profession in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown in December, albeit profitable the race within the stewards’ room after Min was demoted.

Merely Ned unlikely to be seen in motion earlier than the Punchestown Pageant

He continued his wonderful document in Eire of getting by no means completed out of the primary three in 5 visits by filling the runner-up spot within the Coral Dublin Chase on the Dublin Racing Pageant earlier this month.

Richards didn’t even hand his secure star an entry for the Queen Mom Champion Chase on the Cheltenham Pageant and suggests he’s unlikely to run earlier than a possible look within the Champion Chase at Punchestown in April.

Richards said: “He seems in nice form. We haven’t sat on him since he ran the other week, he’s just been lunging and playing around and having an easy time of things.

“If he tells us he’s in grand form, he’ll probably go to Punchestown in the spring.

“We didn’t even enter him for Cheltenham this year. He’s been there before and it hasn’t worked out and I know there are question marks over one or two of the big boys this year, but Altior looked pretty good the other day, didn’t he? I wouldn’t be that keen on taking him on every day of the week!

“Our horse is a grand horse and he owes us nothing.

“We’re having plenty of fun with him and hopefully we’ll have a bit more at Punchestown.”
