The 29-year-old Saturday Night Live alum married Kennedy at her childhood church in Connecticut last September, alongside a wedding party of 16 bridesmaids and groomsmen who were family members and close friends of the couple.

Abby wore a lace gown by Leanne Marshall, while Bill donned a blue custom Duca Sartoria suit.

In keeping with tradition, the duo didn’t see each other until the ceremony. “We didn’t have a first look, so the first time we saw each other was at the church,” Elliott shares. “And he made sure not to talk to me before the wedding or before bed the night before.”

But the wedding wasn’t without a couple of funny moments, thanks to the Catholic priest officiating the ceremony.

“He definitely called the best man the ‘breast man’ at some point. Then he introduced us as ‘Mrs. and Mrs.,'”Elliott recalls. “We just laughed it off.”

After the church nuptials, the newlyweds headed to Elliott’s parents’ home for the reception, which included a cocktail hour for their 170 guests and a menu featuring mac-and-cheese bites, in honor of the first time that they met, and a raw bar, which was an ode to their first date.

Although the wedding was emotional, Elliott admits to only crying twice. The first time was when her father, comedian and former Saturday Night Live star, Chris Elliott, described the “immense relief” that he felt after meeting his daughter’s mother. “Which I totally relate to with Bill,” she adds.

A second round of tears came after the bride’s cousin surprised her with a performance of “I Wanna Grow Old With You” from The Wedding Singer.

The twosome tied the knot three years after they first met on the set of the 2014 comedy Sex Ed, written by Kennedy. After filming wrapped, the cast headed out to dinner, where the two shared lobster mac and cheese.

Their romance, however, didn’t take off until more than a year later, after Elliott returned to her home in Brooklyn, New York. Kennedy contacted her to go over a scene in the film and they met for oysters and martinis.

A year after their first date, the screenwriter popped the question with candles and flowers filling their apartment.

“I knew I wanted to marry Bill right away,” Elliott confesses. “I had a secret Pinterest board with our wedding all planned out.”
