A Republican Celebration chairman in an Ohio county introduced his abrupt resignation Monday, citing President Trump’s Helsinki summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and a “matter of conscience” as causes behind his choice.
Chris Gagin, Belmont County Republican Celebration chairman, made the sudden announcement on Twitter. He had been the county’s GOP chairman since April 2016, Cleveland.com reported.

“I stay a proud conservative and a Republican, however I resigned right this moment as Belmont Co. Ohio GOP Chairman. I did in order a matter of conscience, and my sense of obligation,” Gagin tweeted.
In a follow-up tweet, Gagin defined why he felt he wanted to go away the place.
