The now 53-year-old host of The Murder Squad podcast was initially presented to the case in 1994, when he was tapped as a private investigator for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. At the time, the criminal in those cold case files was described as the East Area Rapist. Thankfully, due to a DNA development in 2001, it was found that the criminal activities dedicated by the Visalia Ransacker, the East Area Rapist, the Diamond Knot Killer and the Original Night Stalker were in fact done by one male, later on rebranded as the Golden State Killer.
Following years of gathering DNA proof linked to these unsolved criminal activities, Holes got in contact with genealogist Barbara Rae-Venter. And it was through this genealogist that an effective hereditary profile and ancestral tree was utilized in the arrest of DeAngelo.
