House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday called members of the choose committee that will examine the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, consisting of Republican Rep. Liz Cheney.

“It is imperative that we find the truth of that day and ensure that such an assault on our Capitol and Democracy cannot ever again happen,” Pelosi stated in a declaration Thursday.

Cheney stated she was honored to be designated to the committee.

“What happened on January 6th can never happen again,” the legislator stated in a declaration. “Those who are responsible for the attack need to be held accountable and this select committee will fulfill that responsibility in a professional, expeditious, and non-partisan manner.”

The panel’s development comes as Democrats and Republicans splinter over just how much more Congress requires to do to examine what caused the attack on the Capitol, which disrupted the transfer of power.

Many GOP legislators — who see highlighting Trump’s function in the riot as a possible liability ahead of next year’s midterm elections — have actually competed a brand-new examination would replicate existing efforts from the Justice Department and standing congressional committees.

The Democratic-led House established the choose committee after Senate Republicans obstructed an expense that would have developed an independent commission to examine the attack. Six GOP senators voted to move on with the legislation.

Asked Thursday whether the committee will subpoena Trump, Pelosi would not state.

“I have made the appointments, the committee will make its decisions,” she stated.
