Steve Mullen guides you through Friday’s racing from Lingfield, Newcastle and Bath
WAR GLORY went down in a driving finish over course and distance last time and comes back off the same mark. He was nobbled right on the line on his first start for more than six months. He has few miles on the clock and should be capable of building on that effort.
PINZOLO is interesting taking this big step up in distance after running really well in a Group 3 over 1m2f last time out. He has won around here over 1m4f without looking to be running out of petrol. He has a big touch of class about him and will go close if seeing out the trip, which I think he will.

MUFFRI’HA looks hard to beat after going down by less than half a length in a Meydan Group 1 last time out. That was against some top-class colts and she should find it easier back against her own sex. That was over 1m1f but this drop in distance won’t be a problem because she is a very speedy type.
LANCELOT DU LAC has been a model of consistency on the all-weather this winter with two wins and a close-up second to his name. He is comfortable over this trip or the minimum so he’ll have no problem going with the early pace. He’s used to plying his trade at Group level and clearly likes it around here.
SOVEREIGN DEBT made an excellent start to life with under-rated trainer Ruth Carr last time, finishing a close-up third at Kempton. He would probably have won but for meeting some trouble in running and he fully deserves to take his place here. He was good enough to win at Group 2 over this trip in Doha and should be in the shake-up.
SECOND THOUGHT and Sutter County keep taking each other on with the former coming out on top last time out. He was three-quarters of a length in front but gave the impression that there was more there if needed. It should be a good battle between them again with Tomily also capable of making his presence felt.
ABSOLUTE BLAST showed good speed and good heart to win despite meeting trouble in running at Kempton last time out. That was over this distance and he was third in the Group 3 Winter Derby on his last trip to Lingfield. That’s decent form and he should figure again.
