Steve Mullen guides you through Sunday’s racing from Pontefract and Uttoxeter

2.00 – Mullen’s star bet

Ponte’s stiff finish should be ideal for SOSIAN who has been knocking on the door over this trip. She has been finishing off her races strongly and will ultimately be better over 6f.

For now, she should be more than good enough for this.

REGAL MIRAGE has popped in a quickfire hat-trick of handicap wins, with each rise in the weights proving no problem.

He wasn’t stopping over 1m3f at Hamilton last time and should have no problem with this extra furlong.

NEAR KETTERING should be okay with the draw from stall 7 and looks the most progressive runner in the line-up.

He went well on his handicap debut at Newmarket last time when bang in contention until the closing stages. Jamie Spencer is back on board today, which is a positive.

All of these have question marks so we’ll forgive TASHWEEQ a poor effort at Newmarket last time out.

Before that he finished an excellent third in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot and he was contesting Group 1s before his injury layoff.

AVON BREEZE likes it here and will appreciate a bit of cut in the ground. He had a fair bit in hand when scoring over 5f latest but this longer distance suits just as well.

A 4lb rise in the weights looks fair and he should go close again.

SHARJA BRIDGE was third in a good maiden at Haydock last time which has produced winners.

The form of that debut is a couple of steps ahead of today’s rivals so he wouldn’t have to improve to win.

ASTROPHYSICS ran his best race for a long time when a close-up second at Beverley last time out. There was some cut in the ground that day and he goes off the same mark here from a decent draw.
