REFEREE Marc Goddard has revealed why he shouted at Conor McGregor at UFC Fight Night 118 on Saturday night.
The two-weight world champion was in Gdansk cheering on friend and team-mate Artem Lobov during his defeat against featherweight Andre Fili.
During the second round of action, Lobov was pinned down by Fili, but the ref paused the fight to walk over to the cage to tell ‘The Notorious’ to leave the area.
McGregor – who is not a licensed cornerman – was shouting instructions to his SBG Ireland stablemate as he lay flat on the canvas.
Goddard told MMA Fighting: “The reason I interjected is because Artem gets a fourth cornerman cage side giving instruction.
“That’s not allowed. Imagine had Conor talked him through a fight-ending sequence. Then what?”
The Irishman instead ended up patrolling around the Octagon during the bout, though his support failed to inspire Lobov who suffered a second consecutive defeat as he lost with scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27.
Goddard said of McGregor’s stalking: “Conor was basically acting like a fourth cornerman. Walking around the cage side wherever and whenever he wanted.
‘HE WANTS TO DEFEND’ Conor McGregor WILL defend his UFC title next and would KO Paulie Malignaggi in the ring, claims sparring partner Artem Lobov
“When Fili took down Artem, Conor was right there. That’s simply not fair and not allowed. I won’t have it. He can’t do as he pleases.
“If Conor had stood up, stayed at his seat, then he could have shouted till his heart’s content.

Conor McGregor WILL defend UFC title, claims stablemate Artem Lobov
“That’s what he’s supposed to do. But what he simply cannot do, what he is not allowed to do, is approach the cage at any point and as I say act as the fourth corner.
“That’s unfair and unjust. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’ve done this forever, in any country in any situation.
“My integrity is not wavered and neither is the rules. We can’t allow that. I simply had to act.”
The 29-year-old sparked outrage after the fight in Poland, as he was caught on camera repeatedly saying the homophobic slur f****t – though it is unclear who he was talking about.
McGregor – who hasn’t fought inside the steel cage since winning the lightweight belt last November – is in line for a return to face current interim champion Tony Ferguson.
Lobov – speaking exclusively to SunSport last week – revealed that he WILL make his comeback to the Octagon to defend his belt against the American.
